The Founder of Banophul

Zakia Akhtar Hossain is executive Director of ״Banophul״  a reputed N.G.O of Khulna working for distressed women and poor people. In her student life she participated actively in student polities and student movement. When she was the student of Jessore M.M collage, she joined in the “East Pakistan students union״ (EPSU), she was elected common room secretary of M.M collage students union. In her university life in 1968 at Rajshahi university she was a student of 1st year Hons Chemistry. She was elected member of Munnujan Hall union in 1968, general secretary in 1972 and V.P in 1973. She was also the member of the university all party students action committee and actibvely perticepated for establishing studetn’s 11 point movement. When Dr. Zoha was martyred by the Pakistani Army she came out first with a black flag and lead the procession to break 144 among the students of university. In 1971 she actively participated in the liberation war. After compilation the student life she started social  work. As a social worker she formed  “Banopul” a non government organization   with some other social worker women for the upliftment of neglected, less fortunate people, distressed women and children to the extent of higher standard of living. For commandable achivement her organization “Banophul” has got president population award and prime minister population award. She was the chair-person of ADAB Khulna chapter for severel times and now. At present she was the chair-person of BPW club khulna, lifemember red cricent, member NATAB and also activelty worked as president, vice-president, joint secretary and executive member of many local organizations. She visited India and Thailand for her work. She is an women activist.
